Why Is Filtration Done in Stages?
A compressor air filter removes solid dirt and particles, water, oil vapour, moisture, and rust and carbon residue from the compressed air supply. No single filter can capture all of these efficiently at once.
The right arrangement is staged: a pre-filter for coarse particles first, then an intermediate stage for oil vapour and fine dust, a sub-micron filter where required, and activated carbon for odour. Each stage protects the next and extends filter life.

When should a filter element be replaced? expand_more
When the differential pressure indicator reaches the red band, or when the manufacturer's stated interval has elapsed. A blocked filter causes pressure loss and increases energy consumption.
Does every system need an activated carbon filter? expand_more
No. Activated carbon is needed where odour and residual oil vapour matter — food, pharmaceuticals and breathing air. For general workshop use, a pre-filter and a fine filter are usually sufficient.
Is a water separator the same as a dryer? expand_more
No. A water separator removes liquid water already in the line, while a dryer removes water vapour from the air by lowering the dew point. The two complement each other.
